For the school as a whole we have agreed on the following key points for development:

 

1 Ensuring Bilinguality

 

All DSL pupils should develop their linguistic skills in English and German in depth, to the best of their abilities.

To this end, we wish to put in place learning structures which:

  • enable all the pupils to profit from their bilingual environment
  • put emphasis on an open mindset
  • at the same time, motivate pupils to consolidate basic language structures and develop a flexible approach to language acquisition

The new languages programme, including the PLUScourses and our Buzzwords are key elements that we have worked on this academic year.

 

2 Building Collaborative Structures

The DSL strives to build a partnership of trust between pupils, all members of staff and parents with the aim of extending the bilingual educational programme.

  • We want our pupils to be as widely involved in all aspects of their education and academic development as possible.
  • We want to provide our teaching and administrative staff with a sustainable framework for innovation and the professional exchange of ideas.
  • We want to establish a framework for a regular and effective exchange of ideas with DSL parents.

This will be facilitated by reorganised assemblies, the parents’ Round-Table committee meetings, the SMARTgroups for school development (see below), as well as peer lesson observations amongst teaching staff in Triangle groups, all of which have been introduced this year or are due to start next year.

 

3 Active Involvement of Pupils

Our aim is to reinforce our pupils’ self-motivation and independence. Our pupils should increasingly be expected to develop initiatives and put these into effect with the result that school becomes a place where pupils play an active role in the learning process.

 

The following areas are relevant here:

  • participation in lessons
  • differentiation and inclusion
  • participation in staff meetings, elections, parents’ evenings/days, round table meetings
  • classroom management (results of the study days discussions)
  • events organised by the pupils e. g. assemblies, school meetings, DSL+ talks, charity events, sporting events
