AGM on 09.03.2022
This year's AGM of the German School Association on 09.03.2022 took, in compliance with official regulations, place as an in-person event in DSL's forum. In attendance were parents, employees, teachers, members of the parents-, staff- and student-councils as well as friends of the DSL and an envoy of the German Embassy in London.
Before the official start of the event, interested parties could take advantage of a special offer: Tour guides, students from grades 7-11, showed the new classrooms, the art studios and science labs as well as the learning resources centre, all of which have been built during the last two years. The Primary School, computer lab and the Sportshall could also be viewed.
Jan Peter Weiland, chairman of the Board, the chairpersons of the various committees, DSL Commercial Director Matthias Krauss and Claudia Wolff-Lieser, current Head Teacher, provided information on the developments of the past school year and explained the focal points and aims for 2021/22. In the educational area, these are, in particular, fostering self-reliance in our students, the development of their language skills, goal-oriented preparation for life after school and a special focus on IT/computer and media education. In line with this, a further improvement of the school's IT offering was named as one of the most important topics of the Board's work. The efforts in regard to communication will be continued in a focused manner after new concepts have been introduced already. A special responsibility of the Board is the management of the finances of the school, which are, despite the current obstacles, solid. Thanks to good preparation, DSL, as a sponsor of various visa types (Tier 5, GAE, Charity Worker, Skilled Worker), has been able to continue to hire staff from Europe.
The Board was confirmed by the present members of the school association and will continue the - despite the special challenges posed by Brexit and the consequences of the global pandemic - very successful work in the various committees. Felix von Schubert and Kai-Uwe Karl were re-elected. Tim Greenwell and Guido Kirschner were elected as new members of the Board. Colin Thomann and Markus Nitsche, who have contributed outstanding services as Board members over many years, did not stand for re-election.
First results of the parent survey conducted together with the parent council were presented, a more detailed evaluation will be made available to the school community at a later date.
As every year, the AGM offered all participants the opportunity to receive concise information about the school directly from those responsible for the various areas, to get to know the school management and its visions, and to receive answers to questions directly, in plenary sessions or in personal conversations.
After an informative session the evening ended with some treats provided by the school's catering team and the opportunity to catch up with attendees.
